Where’s the best place to go for on a-once-in-a lifetime big 5 safari in Tanzania?

Tanzania is a country of incredible beauty with a vast amount of wildlife to enjoy amid stunning landscapes. There are many national parks to choose from with the most famous being Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Serengeti is one of the world’s most celebrated wilderness areas and offers the best bucket list safari experience in Africa. It is renowned for its epic, annual Great Wildebeest Migration, when an estimated two million wildebeests cross the vast plains of the Serengeti into the Masai Mara of Kenya. A descent into Ngorongoro Crater which all year round, is teeming with resident wildlife including the Big Five African animals (elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards and lions), will ensure that all of your interests and the  highlights of  a Tanzania safari are experienced! Then of course you have other amazing national parks such as Tarangire National Park (which has one of the largest numbers of elephants across all of Africa), Lake Manyara National Park (known for its tree-climbing lions), Mahale Mountains National Park (a rainforest heaven filled with the world’s last remaining wild chimpanzees), Ruaha National Park and Selous Game Reserve (Africa’s largest game reserve and unspoilt wilderness filled with a variety of wildlife and the big 5 safari animals). The list goes on, and on!

Now let’s take a closer look at some of the common African safari terminology, we simply call it “the safari lingo”:

Game drives:

Area classic way to see as much wildlife as possible, cover lots of ground and hunt out the best action, led by the experience and instincts of a local qualified safari guide. Wito game drive experiences are flexible and can be tailored to suit you, depending on your preferences and how much time you have. We can arrange two shorter explorations (morning and afternoon drive) or one all-day experience, including a picnic lunch while you’re out and about. At Wito Africa, we don’t limit game drives by restricting drivers on mileage that they can travel per day, therefore, you can decide on when to start your safari and how long your daily game drives should last, as long as it is within the time that is set by the national park authorities (the park gates usually open at 0600 and close at 1800).

Walking Safari:

For the most tactile, authentic and intimate experience of the African bush and wildlife, a walking safari can’t be beaten. The gentle pace gives you time and breathing room to take in every sight, sound and emotion, and you really can get up close and personal with your surroundings. Your senses will tingle, your heart will race, and your vivid encounter with Africa’s wildlife – large and small – will forever be etched in your memory.

Safari Glamping, Serengeti style - Luxury African Safari by Wito Africa

Glamping vs. Safari Camping:

Many people know what “traditional” camping means – but if you don’t then it is literary connecting your inner-self with nature – sleeping in a simple tent. Not a fan of roughing it in the African wilderness? Well, you are not alone! If you want an even more authentic bush experience, but with a touch of luxury thrown in, why not consider safari tent glamping. Fall asleep under canvas to the sounds of Africa at night, while still enjoying home comforts, first-class service and luxury amenities. There’s nothing quite like waking up with the sunrise, as the wilderness stirs around you and starts to buzz with energy and life.

Safari Extensions:

Want to relax after your thrilling African safari? Why not add an extension to the stunning white sandy beaches of Zanzibar! Here you will get to relax, enjoy warm waters, sunset, sand between your toes and listen to the sounds of waves crashing on the shore of the Indian Ocean! For those adventure seekers, we highly recommend a bucket list challenge to the roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro for six or seven days before you start your safari!

Safari Add-ons:

Safari add-ons are a great way to add your own personal touch to the trip and ensure that your experience is magical and unique to you. Depending on the destination of your game reserve and lodging, a night game drive can be planned directly through the luxury safari lodges (hotels or camps) which you stay in during your safari vacation or simply organized through a specialized third party company.

Make your African safari vacation extra special with a-once-in-a-lifetime aerial safari experience. If you’re planning to stay in the Seronera, Ndutu, Grumeti or Kogatende regions why not take to the skies above the Serengeti and drink in a breathtaking view that seems to stretch on for all eternity. Marvel at the vastness of the landscape and the richness of the African wildlife, all from the best seat in the house. These are the moments that will stay with you forever.

Night Game Drives:

At night, a whole new world of wildlife comes alive and the game night drive experience holds its own unique wonder. By magical moonlight, you can go in search of the African wild cats, leopards and bush babies, as well as nocturnal creatures such as bat-eared foxes, owls and nightjars. Our safari guides use specialized lighting to point out those animals that are rarely seen in the light of day, and you should also keep an eye out for lions and hyenas.

Regardless of how you and your trip planner choose to make these optional safari extras, a hot air ballooning and night time game watching are some of the most popular safari add-ons that can be organized for you in most parks and lodging in Tanzania.
