The Ultimate Guide to the Safest African Safari in 2021/2022

As the engine of adventures is starting to warm up again, the world is slowly opening up and allowing our amazing guests to travel again while taking all precautions to protect themselves and our host communities in all the destinations they explore. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wito Africa’s priority has been with guests’ health and safety, as well as that of our local partners, our community, and our families.

By working closely with local authorities and accommodation partners, we have enhanced our promise to promote the safest African safari options, and ensure everyone stays safe during their unforgettable safari experiences in Africa.

Many of our favourite African safari destinations are now endorsed by the globally renowned World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) for their safe travels standards. We have also implemented all the recommended health and hygiene protocols in all destinations that our guests visit as follows:

In addition to the special health and hygiene training that was provided to our team in Africa, we have also implemented a regular temperature check for all staff members to ensure they are healthy prior to hosting our guests. Subsequently. we find that the mandatory monitoring of temperature before/after servicing clients will give us a head start to prevention of the spread (if any). Furthermore, all safari guides will wear masks to protect you and themselves and they will have hand sanitizers handy to keep all surfaces clean at all times.

Do you know why we only offer personalized private-guided safaris? Well, because we just don’t like crowds. There’s Never a Better Place to Social Distance than in the African wilderness!

Where to stay in Tanzania?
Just for you, we have hunted out the very best lodges, villas, camps and even treehouses in Tanzania to suit every budget, itinerary and personal preference. Trust us – you’re going to be spoilt for choice! An awe-inspiring setting is just the beginning… Every one of our recommended accommodation options will blow you away with personal service, attention to detail and various levels of luxury.

What is an average day like in the Serengeti?
When it comes to the Serengeti, there is no such thing! Every day promises its own, unique delights. Your guide will be in constant communication with other guides in the area to find out what the herds are up to, and you will have a chat each evening to make a plan for the following day. Sometimes, the herds will be just around the camp or within a half hour’s drive, and at other times you may need to pack a picnic breakfast and/or lunch in order travel further afield. These days out, exploring all that the Serengeti has to offer, are never predictable but always an adventure. We recommend that you set aside a minimum of four nights to spend in the Serengeti so that you really can make the most of this remarkable part of the world.
When is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?
The classic time to visit Tanzania is during the main dry season, from June to October, when good weather conditions can be expected across the country and wildlife viewing should be spectacular. Another major highlight is the migration calving season in Serengeti (December – March), which coincides with good trekking conditions on Kilimanjaro and fair weather down on the coast, too.
