Private Guided Ruaha National Park Safaris & Adventures
Our private guided Ruaha National Park safaris will take you on a journey to the almost untouched ecosystem filled with some rare and endangered species that you won’t see at other parks. Ruaha National Park is the second largest national park in Tanzania covering an area of about 20,226 sq km and is located in central Tanzania. Close to Ruaha, there are a few other protected areas named Rungwe Game Reserve, Usanga Game Reserve and Kisigo Game Reserve.
The park is named after the Great Ruaha River, which is 475 km long, and one of the main reasons the park is exceptional for game viewing. The Great Ruaha River, as well as Mwagusi, Jongomero and Mzombe, flow between beautiful undulating hills. The semi-arid vegetation is dominated by baobab and acacia trees, but over 1,650 plant species have been identified in the park.
The Best Time to Visit Ruaha National Park
The highlights of Ruaha National Park safaris are best experienced during the dry season as it is easier to spot wildlife and access the park. The dry season lasts from late June to October with the last rains ending in April. Ruaha River flows along its South-Eastern margin and is the main hangout area for most animals that come around for drinking water. This makes it one of the remarkable spots for viewing the big game in Africa.
Birds of Ruaha National Park
A bird-watcher’s paradise, the park is home to more than 571 species, including those that have migrated from Europe, Asia, the Australian rim and Madagascar. Though birds can be seen all year round, the best time for bird-watching is during the wet season, when the vegetation will also be at its most luscious.
Kudu, African Lions and Other Animals
The start and end of each day in Ruaha National Park will offer you a unique safari experience. On your game drive, you will see all of the Big Five safari animals, such as elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and impala, you should also keep an eye out for endangered wild dogs or even the greater kudu (a woodland antelope), which you won’t find in any other national park. Waterfalls along the Great Ruaha River are also well worth a stop-off as they are an important habitat for hippos, fish and crocodiles. To enhance your private guided Ruaha National Park safaris, why not experience this untouched wilderness on foot? Adding a walking safari to your safari in Ruaha, your senses will tingle, your heart will race, and your vivid encounter with Africa’s wildlife – large and small – will forever be etched in your memory. As a base for exploring all that Ruaha National Park has to offer, it doesn’t get more lavish than Jabali Ridge. Made up of just eight suites that almost disappear into the surrounding landscape, this is first class accommodation at its best. With an infinity pool, full spa and gin bar, we would highly recommend Jabali Ridge to couples, newlyweds, and those who want the ultimate luxury experience for their stay in Ruaha National Park. The great thing about this location is that it’s a bit more off the beaten tourist track, so it really does feel like your own personal wilderness.
We love this camp because it takes you right back to nature and lets the landscape speak for itself. The simple charm of this place is refreshing, with just six tents clustered beneath the Sausage Tree (Kigelia Africana). It’s peaceful, remote and it stirs the senses as you tune in with the rustles, calls and sighs of the wilderness around you. If you’re on a budget, or just don’t want all the trappings and distractions of a high spec, luxury lodge, this is an excellent choice. You can experience the thrills of big cat sightings and elephant encounters, while enjoying the comfort and attention of a friendly, dedicated team.
